Janelle Piper is a senior in her final semester at Maryville College. Majoring in Writing Communication and minoring in Political Science, Piper hopes to use her knowledge to work in the nonprofit sector doing advocacy work. At Maryville College, she has taken on leadership positions with the campus newspaper, The Highland Echo, Study Abroad Ambassadors, and the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. Piper has earned membership into academic honor societies, Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Sigma Lambda, Alpha Gamma Sigma, and Phi Theta Kappa. While working toward her bachelor’s degree, she is also earning her Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential. She wants to use her skills to support and advance government policy that focuses on education, poverty, and criminal justice reform. Her past nonprofit work includes working as a communications assistant for the Blount County Public Library, a community resource for the local community, and Transitions Online in Prague, an educational organization focusing on journalism. Once Piper completes her education, she plans to move to Washington, D.C. to work with nonprofit interest and policy groups as a policy advocate.
